RP Awareness and respect Empty RP Awareness and respect

Hi all,

I've run into something that's been bothering me and i don't want anybody to take offence on this, it's been bothering me on 2 events a while back and i wasn't sure if i should post this, but since i found out most are all mature and experienced roleplayers i figured i could post this...so here goes...

...I'm a level 7 rogue and level 2 shadowdancer, and thus an ideal scout, thief, locksmith, etc..., I was in a party with high level pc's and we all noticed 'trouble ahead'...I offered to scout ahead and find out what we were facing...the party ( or some of it) agreed but when i started off they followed immediatly and some even without concealment, and a few minutes later they just ran ahead and started their frenzy....

...some of the high level pc's can (do better) what i can (or don't even have to conceal and just charge) but i'm asking to respect the lower level pc's skills and roleplay as well, because being ignored like this isn't good roleplay on behalf of the big guys in my opinion...

Please concider this and respect the little ones because they just want to fit in and this way you make it very hard....

...you don't have to treat us as children though Wink

Anyways just sharing my thoughts..

cheers, sploenky

its not just lower level players that this happens to with the whole scouting thing... uglack, a level 10 rogue, 15 SD goes through the same crap with people agreeing to let him scout then as soon as i take a step or two the -entire- group just runs ahead and leaves me in the dust

Best just to avoid people who play that way, it's more like Call of Duty than D&D.

normally with me though, you cant just avoid them since it is in the middle of a real big and important event... and at times it goes against your rp to just avoid something like that

Personally I hang back. I have been in rp and have seen this when one is told everybody rushes suddenly.

Also when in party try and keep togher do not just run off suddenly leaving another member behind. Sometimes they could have a slower connection or problems.

Also try and keep ooc talk to a minimum, me I am guilty but do try. Occasionally something funny happens in game and people cannot help but comment and by the same token if you had a less than enjoyable rp expericence please tell a player or if you use one of the IM's tell them that way.

I agree there is much to be gained by allowing each PC to play to their strengths. Sending a stealthy scout ahead could allow the PARTY access to information that could save the quest - knowing WHEN and WHERE to charge in is the measure of a good leader. PARTIES might also want to consider 'who is leading' - CHARISMA is supposed to count for something, and the general rule we used in PNP games was that the highest LEVEL+CHARISMA was the 'leader' and called the shots for PARTY actions (though PCs could disregard orders from the leader it was frowned upon).

DMs will often create challenges ahead for EACH of the PCs in a PARTY - and reward those who engage and pass the tests. Skipping such things shorts the PARTY of rewards and lore that could prove vital.

Be well. Game on.

While charisma can determine leadership it does not necessarily mean they will be good leaders. Smile What can help is if a dm could maybe mention who is especially when new players are on and maybe it is a continuation of an older plot.

maybe if players are playing a plot that's exclusive to the party they are in, they shouldn't send out invitations to join the party and reject invitations from players that have no business in the plot at hand.

anyways, thanks for the replies guys, i was a bit worried about the reactions but i see that suggestions/complaints are well received and treated with respect! Thanks for that!!!! Smile

cheers

*nods* I agree. Server-wide parties or parties formed NOT for the purpose of adventuring together is generally frowned upon. I know, in the past, and especially when testing systems this was not the case, but in general and for the purpose of normal game play PLEASE ONLY FORM PARTIES FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADVENTURING TOGETHER WITH YOUR COMRADES. There are systems in place to actively discourage such OOC / metagaming uses of PARTY.

Thanks.

Be well. Game on.
