Min Maxing & Why its Bad
Today i delt with a player who couldn't take a class despite having all needed feats. After checking the manual i said "thats odd" all you need is one feat and a dex of 13. Sadly after a silence & checking there score's they had put all there points into STR and every other score was an 8.
Don't do this people... I am not the one it will end up hurting, It will only break your RP later by making you fail all your rolls and be unable to advance.

Re: Min Maxing & Why its Bad
Usually when I start a character, I usually make sure everything is at least a ten. Then I will focus on the skill points needed for my character. Having ten as a base in the stats usually works out well over all. Even though you can start as many characters as you want here, to save everyone time and effort I suggest you use one of those build testing modules, write down the combos that work for you then you can build a character you can live with.
Two I use are:
There is a module you can download called The Halls of Advanced Training that lets you level up (or down) any character and then test out the builds, with whatever equipment your heart desires, in a variety of customizable encounters.

I don't think it's a problem, as long as people role play their characters. That means of course, role playing your weaknesses as well as your strengths.

Its not agenst the rules, I am simply pointing out that people need to think before they put all there points in one place because it will come back and bite you in game.

He is correct that is why I mentioned the two build testers.

I think that min-maxing is what you have to do, but before that you must know how to build a character in NWN and what are the modifications or the server that may impact your build.

Have to? No.
Having knowledge of builds would only make this case stronger. Min/Maxing is ill-advised any which way you look at it. Then to compound any custom server aspects to min/maxing would likely only damage you further.

Re: Min Maxing & Why its Bad
Hmm, but there is a difference between Min/Maxing knowing what you want to build (Attributes/Feats/Skills/etc) and Min/Maxing without knowing it, for example: If I wanna create a high AC dex based pure paladin, then I'd not put everything into dexterity, instead of that I'd put a proper ammount into dex and also enough into Str/Cha to use Divine Shield (13/13), and also depending on the build, I'd think on how much wisdom I wanna put on it depending on what spell levels I want to reach, and I also would get enough INT to get 20 tumble. For me, that is min/maxing knowing your build.

HA! Then there is only a bit of confusion between our definitions of Min/Max. What you described is the exact opposite of min/max, and should be suggested to anyone building characters.
Have fun, Game on

Re: Min Maxing & Why its Bad
Ah, my mistake.
I understand now what you meant.
Edit: Oh but, I forgot to point out that for that paladin build I'd try to "min/max" the attributes to archieve the highest possible AC. So, in that case the Consitution would have to be very low to get as much base CHA/DEX as possible, and enough str/cha to get divinie shield and int to get 20 tumble. Also, probably the wisdom would have to be low.
Anyways, that's just an example; that build would lack many things that I want in a build.
