SERVER FUNDING

Everything takes money. Running a server like this is no exception. For the first six years I paid from my own pocket every penny of the costs. As has been stated elsewhere, I can no longer do this and the server is dependent on YOU the PLAYERs and DMs. Since I made the announcement that I could no longer support the server, I am pleased to announce that the playerbase has picked up the slack, and but for a few dollars, the playerbase has covered costs of operation.

We host where we do because the cost is low, and the service is excellent. It costs us $240 every three months for hosting, this includes EVERYTHING including the server itself which is repaired anytime it fails (and repair times have been about 30 minutes or less meaning NEXT TO NO DOWN TIME). The server is FAST, the connection is FAST and used ONLY for the server (never lags up because your admin is downloading files, that just cannot happen here). This is DELUXE. This is FIRST CLASS ALL THE WAY.

I AM CALLING ON YOU THE PLAYERS AND DMS TO STEP UP AND SHOULDER THE WHEEL. So please take this plea to heart, and donate what you can afford.

I would like to announce a MILESTONE - we are actually, one payment ahead! This means, your favorite NWN server ArgentumRegio can continue for more than three months with certainty. AND IT US UP TO US TO MAINTAIN THAT BUFFER SO DONATE DONATE DONATE!

I AM ALSO STATING FOR THE RECORD HERE, THAT THE ENTIRE $240 PAYMENT WAS DONATED BY A SINGLE GENEROUS PLAYER.

I will let that sink in a moment.

Until further notice, we are officially ONE PAYMENT AHEAD this means you won't see urgent messages from me saying "if there is no money sent we will close in 3 mos or less." Donations now are paying toward the next payment beyond the current one and I will display in this thread an image to reveal to you at a glance how we are faring for donations. If at any time we loose our buffer (e.g. fail to come up with the next payment out) I will place a notice here that we are in CLOSING MODE and will CLOSE WITHIN 3 MONTHS, as a courtesy to you PLAYERS to get your PCs downloaded and your business on the server concluded.

In a few weeks the server fee comes due again - presently funding stands at $85, the server fee is $195. We'll need to make the payment timely or the server closes.

Hosting costs money, I negotiated the rate down recently but more than that I cannot do. It is up to you.

Server fees come due in November. As always, if the donations are not sufficient to cover the costs, the server closes. I think we all want it to remain open an growing so - do what you can.

At present, funding stands at $80.80 - at our present level of hosting it costs $195 each quarter to fund the server. So the present level of funding ($80.80) represents about 41% of our goal met thus far.

PLEASE NOTE - IF we make our funding goal, I will negotiate a LOWER HOSTING FEE with the hosting company (which will necessitate an IP change) - it is possible we can shave another $10 per month off the costs - MAYBE more if funding is sufficient.

The company offers an option to reduce monthly cost by $50 for each $500 put down on the new server; this essentially means the customer foots the cost of the hardware up front, but *shrugs* if we make the funding level, we'll do that - as is we pay what amounts to $65 a month - if we make the mark, we could reduce that to just $15 per month!!!

As of this writing, we are funded to $90-odd dollars toward the next billing cycle (we can change to a quarterly billing cycle at that time, if we do then we need only c.$210 to cover the bill, or if we stay on six month billing cycle it would be c.$300 needed to cover the bill).

We have EIGHT MONTHS to decide on the course of action.

Since that last post (above) we have limped along making the monthly fee, month-by-month. Sometimes that is no mean feat, but at the least it is enough to keep our server online.

At times it has seemed a little on the doomed side, but there are those who love the server and who are unafraid to step up to the task. In the last 60 days we have seen several BIG donors step in, and as a consequence, we have the next six months hosting covered.

KUDOS TO ALL YOU WHO STAND WITH THE SERVER!!!

Remember, each month we need to get donations totaling right around $60 (I am today negotiating the new rate for the next six months so will have more detail on this later) - if you play here and you love the place, please, consider your heart. All that cholesterol. Skip the chips on your next meal out and donate the price of those french-fries to our beloved server hosting fund. If 20 players donate just $4 a month WE ARE SET.

I am looking forward to a very productive winter season - debugging, bringing in a new crop of DMs and moving this project a bit closer to the end of beta.
