Which Door?

Post  Roger_Dodger on Tue Jul 07, 2015 4:30 pm

Several times, I have 'rented' a room at the Inn (which Inn is unimportant -this beef is global). I get a 'key' (for Room #1, say), then go in search of my room, which could be on any of up to three floors. After trying EVERY door on every floor, I can't locate a door this 'key' will unlock. I try both 'using' the door ('clicking' on the door), AND using the 'unlock' command. I even tried to 'bash' the door, but that didn't work either. I finally just give up, and crashed on the floor.

Two suggestions:
1. At BOTH ends of a hallway, put up a Merchant's Shingle, or Banner, or some other sort of descriptive 'placeable' that says something like 'Rooms 1 - 10' or 'Rooms 11 - 20'. Same with the 'foot' and 'head' of stairs to/from next floor.

2. MARK the Doors! (or floor in front of the Door) with the room number! THEN make sure the 'key' fits! Perhaps using the 'Spot' function to indicate which door the PC is looking at would work???

Same suggestions for the 'Dorm Rooms' in Dorhal University - they don't work either, or I just can't find the right door.

Have a Happy Day Very Happy

It will tell you the doors when you rent a room. The way the script is written you have to look on the door for the room number.

So if the script says " Room 1" you need to examine each door for the number. Smile

Or you can just rightclick on the doors and examine them.

So if the script says " Room 1" you need to examine each door for the number.
Or you can just rightclick on the doors and examine them.

OK. Right-click + Examine. If it says the right room number, Right-click + Unlock?

How about the markers for which doors are on which floors (Rooms 1 - 10), stairway markers. Or are all the present doors on the first floor?

Markers for each floor make sense, otherwise.

Right click + Examine
If the right door

Just Left Click, the script will check for the key and open on it's own.

NOTE to Eriniel and 'Self' - when a door is tried and found locked, it should trigger a door-appropriate fail sound on 'both sides' of the door... so a PC on the other side might hear the door being tried and RP a reaction if the PLAYER is paying attention.

Key for Rental Building

Post  Roger_Dodger on Sat Jul 11, 2015 10:29 am

I rented a place in S. Chondra last night - The Baker's with apartment (the apartment is locked) on the East side. There was a 'sparkly' pillar inside. Went to the Registrar (3rd floor of courthouse), and inquired about a rental. He showed me his 15 page list of rentals (took awhile, but at least this works). Finally located the property I wanted. It was listed for 68 cp/night, so I rented it for ONE night. He charged me 6 pp! (first glitch). If I remember the monetary system correctly; 6 pp = 60 gp = 600 sp = 6000 cp !! Ripped off again - you really need to look at your monetary conversion routines!! (the merchants aren't good at making change either). So OK, I'll let that go for now. I got a 'blank' key - 'Examined' the key, and determined that I at least got the right key.

Back to the Baker's shop. Entered, and went to the door to the upstairs apartment. 'Examined' the door, and got the same ID as the key. 'Left-click' on the door - " LOCKED "! Tried Right-click/Unlock - "You need the correct key to unlock this door"! Several attempts using different combinations later with no better luck. 'Something' is really screwy with the 'Key/Door' routines. I did 'talk' the problem, hit 'Enter', then activated the 'bug report' thingie, and got a 'Bug Reported' signal. I assume that worked OK, but haven't heard back yet (its still pretty early).

One last thing - The 'sparkly pillar' was still in the room when I entered with the key. Shouldn't it go off when I rent the place?

'Curiouser and curiouser', said Alice.

I didn't notice any change given in the 'readout', only that he took 6pp. Previously, I had consolidated my coins in the 'Money Bag', and there were some 'odd' coins in my inventory when I looked. The Recorder really only needed to take 1 pp, and give change back from that (1000 cp). I'll take better note of the odd coins next time.
