Now, let's talk about EXPERIENCE POINTS. Razz

In D&D it is traditional that we get XP for our combat victories; every edition back to the original has had its own tally of XP for each monster or tables of xp by various qualities of monster such as Hit Dice, etc.. Many other means of earning XP were also available to PCs, many by specific forms of interaction such as research or general 'adventuring awards'.

It is essential that PCs advance.

Here on ArgentumRegio, we have allowed for XP to be gained by a variety of means including the following (a '*' denotes a system to debut on AR in the very near future):

ALL PCs gain XP for RP - our systems analyze what your PC says in TALK, WISPER and other modes and based on your verbiage and your emotes in various channels, it synthesizes a number representing a ROLE PLAYING XP REWARD, which is awarded on your NEXT visit for RP done on THIS visit.
ALL PCs gain XP for exploration of new places, typically 20 XP per new Area, although the amount may vary.
ARCANE casters can gain XP by collecting TOMES (BOOKS, LIBRAMS, etc.).
*ROGUES, and greedy/avaricious PCs via LOOTING.
*ROGUES via pickpocket (subset of looting), lockpicking, grifting/extortion (subset of looting).
*ARCANE casters and LICENSED CRAFTERS can gain XP by herbal/resource collection.
*DIVINE casters and PALEMASTERS can gain XP by interaction with UNDEAD.
*MONKS can gain XP by meditation.
Those PCs which are cowards/craven, may gain XP by avoiding combat and dangerous situations.

Soon ...
WARRIOR CLASSES and PCs which are fearless/foolhardy may gain XP by participating in combat regardless of outcome.

This new feature will debut soon and will result in the usual combat XP ONLY being awarded to WARRIOR CLASSES (these include FIGHTER, RANGER, PALADIN, and WEAPON MASTER). All other PCs will receive 1/10th the usual XP from combat.

This will slow the rate of progression significantly, we hope in a favorable way (remember people we ARE experimenting here, and our experimentation has resulted in MANY alternate ways to earn XP here - the experiment needs to stay balanced).

Still, we are seeking MORE WAYS YOU FEEL YOUR PC SHOULD BE ABLE TO EARN XP - so please add to this thread on the sorts of actions you feel should result in the (possible) award of XP in ArgentumRegio. Help us turn this into one of the most RP-interactive worlds online!

I just had a tiny idea, maybe adding spellcasting exp. Like 5 or so, with a timer to make sure people arent spamming for exp. Since practice makes perfect after all. Like each use of certain Custom Spells would give 5 Exp to the caster, and perhaps even allow the character to learn a better version of that spell (in the case of Teleport/Teleport Without Error) and maybe for NWN spells a Arcane Dummy/Target that can be summoned via wand by Wizards who have apprentices, that soaks up spells, retaliates with a weaker spell after a round (giving the apprentice time to counterspell the cantrip and earn extra exp, like another 2).... on second thought, This dummy thing I'd like to be special to my guild, since I've made it a priority to gather apprentices to teach the Arcane Art.... man thats a cool idea I had Very Happy

On the note of non-violent XP awards... when entering heavy combat situations, give a proportionate bonus if the ratio of unconcious or otherwise disabled oponents is higher than the volume of corpses that PC left behind when combat is deemed to be over.

If it has not been implemented yet adjust xp for creatures killed based on difficulty and numbers faced.

Xp on monsters needs to be consistant and not vary like been extremely high one time and extremely low the next even ifyou have not changed levels.

Have acceptable challenges and xp for higher levels. A higher level may fight off 10 mosters at the same time alone and only get ten xp points and almost die?

Have quests set up. Quests given would be adjusted for levels. Like find an item or get an item from another npc. these are good for whne people log on and noone is on which happens. It still allows people to enjoy and explore even if they are alone.
