Ideas for low level events/npc quests

ok guys came up with this last week , said something about it to dm dragon he liked it so here gos
GIANTS. *posted notes around the Tivook area read* "raiding giants have been seen in the farm land there killing live stock and trampleing fields, farmers are willing to pay a group to remove this band of foul monsters , 50 gold per adventurs and 100 gold for the head of there chief, please inquire with the Tivook barkeep"
a group of raiding giants passing through the farm lands around Tivook, maybe a mt. giant chief and 3 to 6 mt. or hill gaints moveing through the farm area's near Tivook killing and stealing live stock.. giants got to eat to you know, so raiding farms is a good source of fresh meat . Now I know this is nothing for the 300+ hp,+7 sword groups of old timers around here.. but for some new players like me (at 96 hp) this is going to be a fight and might just get some butts on to dohral to try and take them down , and yes theres things to work out , like the reward.. not much for around here (raids docks for diamonds) but in real trems thats a lot for a bunch of farmers and this would be a good low level quest to get people in here to check things out , fact is as a new player I've spent alot of time exploreing , hideing from things I had no chance of killing or dead because I did not hide well and got ate. I know we have some high level char.'s in here and some wild events .. but I really try to stay away from them ... not much fun when you can't even hit the critter and it kills you with one hit ya know ,after a few of those kind of want to say hell with it go someplace were I can play and win sometimes , and I'm alot more mellow about things like that than most I've met this last year on gamespy ... its about balance you know if you got no chance.. why try? just a thought

I'm not at all opposed to this scenario, and encourage our DMs to 'make it so.'

As regards some challenges beyond a PC's level....

While I appreciate that some servers nerf their encounters to allow lowbies to go places well beyond their abilty, we do not do that here. Instead we try to provide hints that you may be getting in over your head and leave it to the PLAYER to choose a course of action. Yes, even in the city, late at night, sometimes a summons goes bad and leaves some demonic somethingorother stalking the streets looking for some desert with which to wash the wizard taste out of its mouth. Sometimes, the best choice is to run. That said, there ARE lots of lowbie and mid level places to go.

Note, some of the reasoning behind this is to encourage parties to form and travel together as the lone adventurer is - espcially as they are the only target around - doomed in some situations. Soloing is possible here, but the PC must be ready to act prudently and quickly in a variety of situations, and sometimes the only choice that makes sense it to flee.

I built no 'trainer wheels' into this module. This is intentional. There is a logic to the place though and you will find monsters are tougher (generally) the farther you travel from the city and the more off-road you go.

yes I do agree that going to more remote places, monsters will be harder.. my concern is with that 4th lv. steping out of noob u for the first time and meeting 3 specters and 6 dopplergangers , don't the guards try to keep these things in check? in town at least? I know that I've been packed in the streets a few times even died once just trying to go to the college, maybe a wandering patrol of guardsmen to keep the numbers down some what. this would open a few options for dm as well.. "guard captin to dark clad halfling in shadowed doorway* HEY! what all this about shorty??" anyway I know there are no training wheels here and you take yer chances but at least the town guards should be after nasty things in town so if a low level gets jumped they can run for the guard post and maybe get some help fighting whats chaseing them just a thought
