Our NWN Server is ONLINE

I have been VERY actively advocating on your behalf. Up until now, we had been paying $80 a month for this server (an excellent server which has almost no down time, no lag and pretty much never crashes) - and we have been with this hosting company for a very very long time (since we opened our NWN server more than 7 years ago). Because we've been with them for a long time and we have a good relationship with the sales and tech staff there I was able to 'squeeze' them for more RAM than our deal would have normally permitted.

In the time we've been with this company, the server had a couple hardware issues - it happens. At one point a hard drive went bad and they lacked a HDD to fit the original server so they offered a free upgrade to a more current server along with the new hard drive - and I accepted. Sadly, in the swap, the new server they gave us had the contracted amount of RAM memory, so we dropped from 2 gigs back to 1 gig at that time. I had not noticed the RAM change initially tho had spotted a small hit to the performance of the system. Still this was hardly noticeable as the new motherboard and CPU made up for the difference pretty much.

Some among our PLAYERBASE have been very kind and concerned and offered to help with server costs or alternatives to some degree, and subsequent to those kind overtures I have recently been going over the operation of the server and looking for ways to improve and economize. In the process of doing so, I decided that we'd been with the company long enough and it was time to renegotiate the deal (the server we are on is no longer a super modern one but hey, NWN does not require 8 CPUs nor does it benefit from most of the changes between our server hardware and the more modern stuff).  I telephoned the company yesterday and was able to negotiate some excellent changes.

Starting with our August payment, our monthly cost will decrease from $80 per month to just $65 per month. More, because we are such long time loyal customers (and we previously had more RAM on the rig than we do on the present one) they generously offered to UPGRADE THE SERVER FROM 1 TO 4 GIGS OF RAM!!!

Needless to say, when the upgrade is done, the server will be much improved and be properly ready to begin hosting the 'sister modules' when we are fully prepared to do so.

So, the short of it is, the server is offline for hardware upgrades, and will return to service 'soon'. Thank you for your patience during this (very rare) downtime.

RAM is now installed - and I am restarting the server. UPGRADE took 10 minutes. THAT is service worth the cost.

Yes, we did an update about 2 hours ago, that did not run well. We've made a couple edits since then to put it back to rights and hopefully the version that is booting now is going to be stable. I'll keep you posted.

Server is back on and open.

We had to revert to prior stable version. Erin and I have a possible fix for the problem but want to face this on 'fresh heads' so we'll unleash and test our latest fix, tomorrow morning.

My apologies for the down time, we will get this sorted out ASAP.

Yesterday evening the server went offline.

The reasons are a bit complicated, I won't bore you.

The server is back online THANKS TO ERINIEL. That woman is awesome, just totally awesome! Be sure to thank her yourself when you see her next.
