Credit To Eriniel
Friends,
Eriniel, over the years, has done a lot for the server as you all know. Her scripted systems here are nothing short of awe inspiring. Most do not know that Eriniel has done great service to the NWN community at large and I'm here to spotlight that for a moment.
Way back when the Master Server had been closed, just after Gamespy dropped all support for NWN, the community was all aghast at the notion that there would be no more listing of NWN servers for players to peruse. Several suggested making changes to certain aspects of the hostling machine, but I and Eriniel both looked on these changes as undesirable (we are security nuts here and once we put a lock on something we only change what needs changing for reasons). Eriniel poked around under the hood and said "the suggested changes are totally unnecessary". She then produced C language code that we planned to merge with the PHP of Neverwinter Connections to provide that list - but the community could not be persuaded to assist us, and we had to put that project (NWC) aside. Still, we knew the servers were still broadcasting all their data to the world - it was just the case that no page nor system was configured to display that data for NWN gamers to use. We had other fish to fry so we soldiered on.
Eventually a nice fellow named Pascalbrax contacted us and we discussed with him how unnecessary the suggested server changes were - and to his surprise even demonstrated and shared the C language source code on how it was done. Eriniel gave permission for Pascalbrax to use that code in the hopes it would help NWN gamers connect with one another as long as there was interest in doing so.
I stumbled across this page today and the last line of that page made me smile.

"Part of this code has been created by the legacy NWN community in 2004 and ported by Eriniel's C code."
Kudos to Eriniel - a largely un-sung heroine to NWNers everywhere!

She's not cited only in the page, but her name is inside the code as well as "Eriniel method".

It is good to see you still active in the community! I'm glad to see the code continues to serve well! KUDOS to you and Eriniel!

Re: Credit To Eriniel
Friends,
Just to clarify. This is meant in NO WAY to disparage our friend Pascalbrax. Pascalbrax does in fact credit Eriniel as noted. Many users don't read the code so may not see Eriniel's name, and of course the end users seldom know who made what parts of the tool they use though they may well enjoy the quality of the tool. This was posted more because it was an opportunity for me to share the story of how our paths crossed and where that all lead.
I am _very_ please to see the whole serving the community so very well, thanks to Eriniel and Pascalbrax each for the part they play.
I think sharing these 'behind the scenes' stories is important too, if only to properly say 'KUDOS to you all!'
