In Game time

As some of you already know, I have to use and older computer due to a malfunctioning HD.

I have to monitor how long I play nwn as cooling system not that hot and when I bought teh compy 7 years ago really did not have uber game play in mind

Is the CPU the part getting hot or is it the GPU? because if its just game-play you can probably upgrade the graphics card and all will be well (assuming that this is a desktop).

also, the hdd on your normal pc went bad right? if the rest works still thats a pretty easy fix (in general).

Yes both are desktops. However I did try and play an extended time and it was ok. I do not have that much on the old compy as most was either transferred to the new compy and on external hard drives. I really do not want to touch my old compy with upgrades and stuff. The old compy's operating system is windows xp while new compy win 7 ultimate.

In reference to the HDD on the new compy, nothing else works. I tried to click on safe mode but that does not even come up it acts like it does,then it reboots but gets to the screen hit f1 for reboot and I can not.

yeah.. it sounds like your HDD has locked up and it cant read it but it still knows its there. do you know how to replace the drive? i can give you instructions if you need but it sounds like you will need to add a new hard disk and re-install windows.

Hopefully not a virus. I will have the computer recovery peeps dO a virus scan before downloading the info( I hope they can). Since it is under warranty, dell will have a technician install it.

Thats good, HDDs are expensive so it being covered can be a lifesaver.

Best advice for discovery/recovery is a linux LIVE CD - for example, to test your system completely for virus, use the 'LIVE RESCUE CD' from AVG (found on the site [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ). Other LIVE CD or DVD based on linux can do a complete diag on your hardware even if windows won't boot. These actually boot from the DVD drive (for those unfamiliar with these things). Update......

New drive ok... old drive about 80% or more workable so good chance for recovery....

However, during install things discovered... one slot of the six slot board not working plus two out of the six ram sticks not working...

So replacements for the boards and the sticks.... If the tech gods have mercy on me hopefully fixed by next weds.....

Also I think once I find out what if anything I can get off my old drive I will feel a bit better playing...

Happiness! I was able to get everything I wanted off the drive and onto my own Portable drive! The download and disk wipe with tax was under $120. !

Oknew compy up and running. Will try and access game if not will switch to old compy and dink around later.

After a few minor bumps got NWN up and my compy back to what it was! May not reload some things. Stress level is reduced so I should be a bit more in the rp mode.

Not sure If I wll be in game and if I am may not be til a bit later in evening.

Feeling much better hope to be in game tomorrow and the weekend for a bit.
