NPC quests Empty NPC quests

This server has a lot of potential- the scripting and attention to detail is one of the best I've seen so far. We've got active DM's that encourage RP and some amazing players that bring life to the server.

However that might also be a tad bit of a problem- this server is very Player activity based. That means you needs players to gain players, which obviously has it's problems. What might help is things player can do by themselves, as well as in a party: quests.

There are little mini "go find and deliver this item" quests, but they focus mainly on Dohral and offer small rewards. (and sometimes break) Good for quick coin and xp for the lower levels, but not worth it for many. Now, when I heard of the Mercenary's guild, I was hoping for some interesting quests: quests that would give me something to do, offer coin, xp and exploration on a larger scale to playing delivery service. Sadly the Guild has been destroyed so I'll never find out how good it may have been.

But the idea is still there. Maybe we could have a few more NPC factions or guilds, maybe orientated around class or RP: Theater for bards (which may have darker secrets behind the curtain?), Temple quests for clerics and paladins, 'item retrieval' and targets for thieves, NPC assassin contracts, bounty hunts for fighters and so on. These quests could be leveled: so that a higher level will be given a harder task, in a further away location, for more xp and coin. This would also give a sense of accomplishment or purpose- that in someway you're moving up in rank or prestige in this faction, as you do more quests for them.

Maybe there already are quests like this around, but more and more obvious quests wouldn't do any harm. I'm not suggesting we get too elder scroll's here, with the fighters guild, mages guild and theives guild, but something of the like. This would also encourage players to get involved with factions and provide a useful base for DM's- they can have an active event where two factions are butting heads, competing and all the delicious tension and drama that comes with that.

This will provide something for every player, and might provide a reason to go exploring and gaining XP that isn't just monster bashing. There might be some harder quests, that only a group could succeed at, encouraging players to get together. And this means there's something for players to do when no one else is on, encouraging ore players to stay- and then the server will start to shine.

Essentially, my main suggestion is: We need more things to do, that don't depend on other people or DM's. The server is huge, but a lot of the areas are transitory. Put something interesting in there! Make me want to spend ages getting lost in the wilderness trying to track down my goal. Make me get involved with the servers politics and religion.

If any body has any ideas on this please share. I know the dev team is busy, but these generic or focused quests might help get the players rolling.

There is a guild for each base class elgate, however they currently are still NPC run as there is mainly no members in any of them yet.

A few things to note. The PC formerly the leader of the Mercenary Guild (local 1408 in Dohral) recently died a heroic and 'final' death. A PC belonging to a newer player took over the Mercenary Guild (was the highest ranking officer of the guild at the time of the prior Guildmaster's demise. I've not seen much of the PLAYER of the new Mercenary Guild leader... and will soon pass the leadership of that guild to a more active guild member.

We do have a few guilds, some are inactive, most are underpopulated.

WE DO NEED MORE ACTIVE GUILDS and for that we need MORE PLAYERS. The best way to help us attract new PLAYERS to round out our numbers is for our present PLAYERS to post on the primary NWN bioware boards and tell all the other NWN PLAYERS out there that this is a active server and what specifically you like about it. Right now there are only a few of us regularly posting outside THIS forum. This server needs to reach out and alert other PLAYERS of the tools, and RP potential found here.

Please do step up and assist us by forming and populating useful in-game guilds, and by helping to alert others of the fine gaming one can find here. We have been experiencing a growth spurt, and I think we would all like to see that continue. NWN is an older game - it is word of mouth, forum posts and other forms of outreach that help keep her pulse these days.

I have also recently heard from an old member of the Mercenary Guild interested in re-opening it. Kudos, yes, we need active purposeful guilds!

I too agree we need many more automated quests. Initially (for beta testing) we omitted many quests in favor of both retaining secrets of the setting as well as to focus on systems in development.

Beta test is nearly done and we are looking to add many quests both at the 'Grand Opening' of the post beta server, and in an ongoing effort after that to continue to grow the server and enhance the user experience.

On that note, we still have tasks including quests for Guest Builders... anyone interested in helping build the module, please do contact me.
