Old Ages and it's relics.

Post  Valerion on Tue Aug 20, 2013 11:04 am

A small suggestion of mine, I lately saw several very old characters, some even from the time before the rules like the "1 power per 5 levels and only 1 level of power per 5 levels" rule.

So I recommend, for all active players of the oldest ages, to have a DM or GM search you according to the rules to sort out all that is against the rules, or "uber-gear".

It just gives an unfair advantage over the rest of the newer server people.
That is my suggestion.

That was already done. Older players should not be penalized in my opinion if they have "uber gear" many have found that or were awarded that in dm rp.
Making custom uber gear is limited by ones skill.

I think there should not be made any differences, if there is uber gear that goes above the rules, it should be taken away or at least be reduced in power to be inside the rules.

When gear was removed account was taken for the character's leve and if it fit with their character's rp.

Yes but it was not done with every character, not every one was active during that time, that is why I make a "call to arms" in that regard so DMs keep an eye out.

There is no need for this for older established players. Why should they be penalized for what they already have? They worked long and hard to get what they have. Achieving the maximum level very hard.
Now maybe if they gave one of these items to a newer level then maybe.

It has been some newer players in the past year or so (2012-early 2013) who blantly abused the system by not reporting unfair advantages as high xp spawns and places which held the same, abused knowldege gained from places DMs showed them for either testing or rp purposes and passing them on to others causing a mass explosion of people leveling high in a short amount of time.

Many changes have taken place and the decline of mass leveling is the proof.  Yes we would all maybe like to have certain gear, skills and spells but can not until appropriate level. Characters should be rped as in a state of continual character growth and knowledge. Many of us cannot play extended hours to try and get higher levels quickly.

As in life in rp, one should enjoy the journey and not rush to the end.

This has already been addressed for issues with items that were uber to the point of being relics (the shards for example & various things from that "era"). however for the most part unless it is being abused i don't see any reason to remove items unless a issue has arisen from it since they were acquired fairly at the time. A grandfather clause in legal terms.

Either way this needs to be handled case by case. I am all for fairness but i would prefer not to un-reward someone because they did well.

Right. I'll let you all know my lengthy, passionate, and brutally honest opinion. All players should have level appropriate gear. I'll give you my points below, so enjoy.

One: Simply, fairness. It's not fair for someone to have uber gear, and someone not to. It's should be either everyone has uber gear, or everyone has level appropriate gear. At least, that's how I feel it should be.

Two: It's a balance issue. It gives unfair advantages to one player, and unfair disadvantages to another. I'm not just talking about PvP, either.

Three: DM Events. This makes it incredibly hard to set up for. Are we to set it up for the character with uber strong gear, or the character with gear that's appropriate for their level? This will either make it too easy for one character, too hard for another, or both. This, in two words can be described; Not good, or the one word equivalent - disaster.

That my friends is my brutally honest and passionate opinion. The server should be fair and equal to all players, even if this means other players have to have items downgraded to be level appropriate. I'm right, and I'm also an egotistical bastard. We should be fair to all players, and not have any exceptions; That's just favoritism to other/older players. At least, that's how I see it.

I disagree with one point Dragon made. An older player who was playing before newer players, should not be penalized for legally earning, making or buying something which was available back then. That is history and more than likely has rp to the character as well.  That is not favoritism.

An example:  Player A has been playing for four years, player B one year. Player A has things player B may want but cannot get either because of level restriction or unavailabilty.

So player B has a hissy fit and complains about what player A got.  Player B has no idea what player A went thorough to get the item nor should Player A have to explain themselves.

DM's do not have to give items but if they do then they think the person earned it based on rp.  Most people enjoy any event no matter how small or large a dm creates and are happy with a bit of xp along the way.

The point here people is respect everyone, we can not be the same, gads how boring.  If you feel you should have something then rp it either in a forum and or in game via a plot run by a dm.

There is something called a grandfather clause which is used in gaming and in rl.  I play on one world, which after some concideration decided a race was really not valid for the world history. However one player was already that race. They did not make the player change but gave them the option. They respected the player and their rp enough to allow them to stay the race they chose, yet no new people could become one.

I agree with anima, we all know that some of the old gear may be overpowered in some respects, but this gear may have been earned, if i recall the restriction was put in place because of an event that called for its requirement, i don;t think that we should take anything off of a char "unless" it looks utterly and rediculously powerful for them, such as a level 10 player having a uber weapon, no DM in any sane mind would award that powerful of an item to a level 10, it is in most cases a case of common sense.

It's not being penalized. It's being 'brought up to date.' Items that are clearly, over the top, and 'uber' aren't legal. They are over the restrictions, that if I'm not mistaken have been in the DM Docs for years. It's showing favoritism to older players, and nothing less; We do not support favoritism. Perhaps if this was something minor, and that can't affect gameplay in such major ways; But this can.

I don't have anything more to say. I don't think this should be allowed. We've asked players to remove illegal gear, and/or replaced it to a lesser, but level appropriate version of the said illegal gear. I see no reason why we shouldn't still do this.

kind of think should wait to hear from Ehye possibly... there's just a lot of trouble around this but does really depend on the character and how the items were gained and that's really hard to determine for the most part though there are some ways... I know there were a number of strange items sometime back but there was also a decent number of explorer's and sometimes things were given to help them or to just test out things too...

unless the gear is really overpowered like it's a weapon that kills anything instantly or armor that makes them completely unhurtable I don't think should worry too much since gear does wear out and break...
