leaving notes with innkeepers
You know the way sometime you need to do something or need to go somewhere but there are people who your doing things will, ever wanted to leave them a note with the innkeeper?~ well that is waht i suggest some along the lines of "Aria leaves a note with Etrianna for Grace"
Or it might be better to do it via Players names "Player Absol_13 has left note to Player Elgate From aria to grace" (heh dunno why I'm using you elgate XD sorry), Well whaddya think? ^^
Sorry for teh bad spelling, I need to teach my brain to tell my hands to slow down.

Good idea but the gsid should not matter as the game will know which character you play, so I think just the character name.

Re: leaving notes with innkeepers
*BUMP*
I think we have ink and note writing now (Eriniel?)....
Next step would be some feature to allow a PC to tell the Innkeeper who to give the note to, and scripts to carry it out should the target PC enter the same Area as the innkeeper.
Feedback?

Re: leaving notes with innkeepers
A good idea. However how would it be done without dm intervention? Now on another place they have a system of messenger ravens.
You write a note, pay the caravan driver and ravens come and take the note. The beauty of this system is not only does it keep it private but also if the character is not in game at the time the raven is dispatched, when they next log on they get the letter.

Re: leaving notes with innkeepers
Why not simply do it with human couriers? Instead of Innkeepers or ravens. In this case, I'm using humans because, well, they're the most abundant race. And well, in places like the Eastern Citadel, the courier may appear as a dwarf, or even maybe, the courier appearance should be random.
And yes, just the PC's name is cool, no use for the username to show up aswell.

Re: leaving notes with innkeepers
Friends,
One of the things I like about this system using innkeepers is that it is not magical. A simple 'mundane' system for getting word to a friend. We presently have a magic spell 'Messenger' iirc, but I'm not sure if it works if the target is not online (Eriniel? care to enlighten us on that point?).
Hmmm, I bet Potions of Messenger would sell well in game eh?
Another thing I like about innkeepers doing the work is that it encourages PCs to frequent the local popular inns, to see if their friends are trying to reach them, and maybe enjoy a pint.
This will also work well with the 'combustable things burn when put in campfire/fireplace' feature - so you could read a note and then burn it to destroy the evidence. This has IC and RP possibilities.

Re: leaving notes with innkeepers
Innkeepers would work. Would the script be similar to the message boards? Unless Eri has it fixed, usually message board notices disappear after reset the do not have to.
A letter given to the innkeeper would work. Maybe a trigger in the title like this Letter to Oda.
The only messenger spell we have working is in guild books. The arcane masters can send messages using the book. The messengers are either ravens, wisps or faeries.

And I really like the idea of couriers. Well then, how about Innkeepers delivering messages, and couriers delivering itens? And about the couriers, to add to our anti-mule system, the PC must have at least 1 known2me to deliver said PC the item.

So maybe a system to allow both? e.g. Leave a message with the innkeeper for [charname] with option to SEND the message via courier - IF THIS IS A MUNDANE CARRIER, then I think it might be most realistic to specify a person in a place, the courier could go to that place and watch for the person.

Re: leaving notes with innkeepers
If, there are actual NPC carriers, who will be looking out for certain PC's, then maybe they could be pickpocketed or even killed for what they're carrying?
Maybe you could tell them to 'look out for (name) in (certain locations)'. So maybe you'd get a carrier check around Tivook for a while, then move onto other inns, or so on. It'd add more life to the road ways as well, which are currently rather bare.
Messenger birds used to be shot out of the sky, or hunted with birds of prey, so their messages would never reach their intended destination, and worse, their content would end up in unwanted hands.
