Little suggestion for players and DMs

DISCLAIMER: This, under NO circumstances will turn into an argument between me and the player. If this player has something he would like to add, I ask that he NOT name himself as this player and I ask that no one says anything too harsh because this is a rocky topic. Also, I hope this player doesn't mention anything about what actually happened. I'd like to put this behind us.

Alright, today I was on the DM client (And I'm not going to name ANY names or anything.. I hold no prejudice, I just thought some people could learn from what happened), and I was rather bored. I saw two players roleplaying and thought I would spice up the RP a little.

After I did this thing I had in mind, on of the characters cussed at me through a tell.. He was very PO'd, and he blamed it all on me. I said sorry many time over, and explained that I was just trying to help and he said that I'd ruined everything. I had NOT meant to do this, and I was going to undo what I had done, but he said nevermind, and then I logged off because I was very angry and was in no mood for playing. And I did not wish to ruin anyone else's good mood. (Edit: I also forgot to mention that I also had to go.)

What I wanted to say to Players is:
If a DM does something you don't like, don't get so upset... Maybe they DID ruin your RP, but what they did most likely opens up a path to MORE RP. My view on PW like this is that no matter WHAT happens, (Your PC gets killed, your PC's friend dies, your city gets blown up, your dress gets muddy, etc., etc.,) it opens up a path to many more ideas for RPing. Don't get so upset. One time, when I was on a different server, waiting for one part of the server to come back from maintenance, a DM drop me and two other new players into a very hard part of the server, where you need to be at least level six or seven to survive, and we were level two. We were mad at the DM but we improvised that the characters had gotten amnesia. We died many times but we had a lot of fun RPing.

Don't let stupid DMs bring you down.


And to DMs:
Think about what you do before you do something that may drastically change the RP ways of the player. I was just trying to help, and I, apparently, ruined everything. Even though the players should just go along with it, the DMs also need to keep from ruining RP that the character may have really been looking forward to. Most of you probably already know this, and today I did learn a good lesson about DMing and RPing.

I feel I may have overreacted to something today aswell that a dm did. I feel a bit ashamed really. Its a very good post that should speak to everyone, wether they themselves are a victim or cause of something like what you describe.

Metal Tree, if you made this post about what happened earlier, than i am also sorry for being so nasty to you, what happened was just a bit sudden and i was also wrong in being so rude to you.

i am not mad at you, the only thing i would have wanted was for you to help clean things up, since the NPCs don't respawn fast enough at night to be able to RP a raise, and also the factions, since the other NPCs got mad one Cord took revenge.

in short, you didn't ruin everything, you just made a mistake.

if you want any suggestions about how to start more action based mini events i would be more than happy to offer some.

Yes, DMs can and should bring more drama into the RP, and yes they should meter what they insert based on the RP at hand. It does us all good to experiment and learn, and does me proud to see you people TALKING about any issues that may arise.

We all learn via the occasional error (trial and error) - we all grow when we play past it.
