Areacounter - just for the heck of it

I thought it would be funny to have a counter that shows how many areas one had discovered and how many still remain to be explored

This seems counterproductive.....

Doral is supposed to be its own world which has likely not been totally mapped by its inhabitants so an aria counter would just be a big OOC blurb telling you how much of the server you have seen. That might be fun at first but it leads to problems of realism. It turns maps into more of a collectible than a useful thing "Gotta Map em All!" would be a good analogy. Also like the old Pokemon craze (not sure if that was relivent in europe but it was HUGE here about 15 years ago) eventually it will lead to frustration. "What!? 250 MORE places!! I still haven't mapped the last 500!".

I just feel this idea is too ooc in nature to benefit the ic experience of the game.


Any other thoughts?

I agree with Shar. Exploring at times may be boring but thats part of the allure. Besides you get xp for any new area.
