Shenanigans!
After a long time away doing studies, growing in my mature RP shoes, and reading a recent e-mail from here, I have decided to return! Woohoo!
But every time I connect to the server (no matter how I connect, Direct or Server List 'History') I can create a character and hit the 'Play' button, then I get the message
You Have Been Booted.
I am stumped and confuzeld. I re-installed NWN, updated to 1.69 via crit-rebuild, got cep 2.3 (made sure all of the tlks were in place), run in Windows XP Pack 3, Run as Admin, got my graphics driver updated (nvidia), got DirectX, and have scrounged every topic that has to do with Tech Support on this and cannot fix it! I can play others servers just fine, just not this one.
The only thing I can think of is that it is NOT tech related, but is instead a possible IP ban? Though I don't ever recall doing anything even REMOTELY worthy of such, nor have I EVER received any notice of this.
I miss this server now that I was recently reminded of it!
Last time I played was... when I think GM_ODA was implementing a script for Dragons landing on the ground! Quite some years ago ^.^
What other information should I give so that this can be resolved?

Re: Shenanigans!
When the NWN Master Server went down the protection on the Server Vault went with it.
So the server uses the list of PlayerNames to CDKeys that has been built up since it went online.
(For some reason NWN always recorded this information in the ini file, even if it didn't verify it, itself).
This prevents using another player's PlayerName and - Any old password, since the master server nolonger exists to check - and accessing their vault.
However because the PlayerName/CDKey are now linked, using someone else's CDKey makes the system react by booting the PC.
This problem has come up a few times with COG CDKey, they issue a default one in the box, and send the individual one sometime later...
But if you've been here before (Just read that part of message), the chances are the server is trying to protect your account because it doesn't recognize the handle as owning the CDKey. A DM can correct this by telling the system that the CDKey now belongs to this PlayerName.
As a returning player, you might want to get back into your vault (probably have old PCs there).

Re: Shenanigans!
Friend FenrilNinja,
WB friend! Good to see you again.
Yeah, I think it is our security program it remembers your username but does not seem to match your CD KEY (the one you use now) with the one we have on file for you. Are you using the GOG install of nwn? If so you'll need to use the link on their NWN page to have them send you a custom/unique CD Key by email... takes about 24 hours. If you are using some other CD KEY than what you used 'back in the day' let me know and we'll flag the system to let you in.
Hope to see you online soon!

Re: Shenanigans!
I have actually logged into both of my old log-ins, and neither of them have any of my old characters.
I also have and used my original CD's, a-bit scratched up
As far as my old characters, I don't care if I have them or not, I'm fine starting with a new slate!
Both of my log-ins are, in the order of which one I first used on the server:
FenrirNinja
&
ReaperOf666
Either can work.
Also, do you need my Key? If so, here's part of it! (First 2 Lines of all 3 Main Modules, followed by the last line)
Same keys I've always used, never have changed them. Typed them in so many times from so many reinstalls I have ALMOSt memorized them!
NWN, SOU, and HOTU Keys I have, and can share on request!
Thanks!
Missed you all!

Re: Shenanigans!
Friend FenrirNinja,
Thanks for the info. No we don't need the keys, the system reads them when you try to login. If one of us is online when you try to login we can flag your system to login with current keys. BUT - you say you have logged in as both of your old accounts - did you swap keys to do that? Since I've never purged the vaults it seems unlikely your folder would be empty - maybe you logged in as wrong ID?
Regardless, let me know when you'll be able to login next and I'll arrange to be there and flip the switches to let you in.

Re: Shenanigans!
Just posting my own experience with CD-keys and usernames, incase it helps.
I've never been booted before, but I've never tried to make a new char on an empty account.
What happened to me was that when I went to window-mode my NwN on a direct shortcut mode (So it went straight to the log in page) I accidently hit 'c' and 'Enter' rather than 'Alt' and 'Enter', so my username went from Elgate to Elgatec. Weirdly, the first time this happened, I logged into an empty account. Eep! Okay, log out, tried to log in as Elgate again- Still an empty account! Panic. Tried to log in as Elgatec again, just incase- oh, there's my account. Okay. So for a few play throughs, I played logging in as Elgate, but I had to type Elgatec into the username log in. After a few uses, Elgatec was an emtpy vault again- immediatly tried regular ol' 'Elgate', and I was back to playing as elgate with my proper vault.
So it might be that, even though you have the old CD-Keys, because you've tried different usernames, the log in is getting confused? It might just need to reassure the server that 'yes, this name + this key = this vault' or something along those lines.

Re: Shenanigans!
Okee!
I will be trying to log-in every hour today on the hour several times in hopes of catching someone!
Thanks for the help!
P.S.
To answer the question, I have only EVER used 1 log-in in the olden days, and just here recently, maybe a few months ago, I used a second log-in under the same CD Key, it's my back-up account in case I have problems with my first one, or I somehow forget the password and such of the first one, I hardly ever use it at all!
So, Same Key has been used since day one of playing NWN, regardless of account.

Re: Shenanigans!
If someone helped, then yay! I wuv you soooo much!
I just tried logging in several times in just the random hope of someone being on, third log-in I had all of my old characters (Wow I had a lot of Ideas back in the day! Too bad I don't like any of them now!). Made the character I've been trying to make, and logged in, and everything is swell!

Re: Shenanigans!
Well, the shenanigans continue!
I was just finishing doing Noob-U and was climbing a rope do get down from a cliff-face - the game crashed out, which is no biggie, and I go back to re-log in, and the character I had used for a few hours is gone! I don't know what happened! It said it saved him several times...
Account is : FenrirNinja
Character: Raed, Level 1 Fighter
It's easy to remake him, but I don't know if it will happen again.
Also, how would I go about deleting old characters? I know I won't touch over half of these guys ever again, and it would clear up some space on my apparently glitch log-in!
~UPDATE~
Apparently it replaced(?) him with a Monk version that is Level 4... I don't recall making him level 4 or being a monk. Strangeness is afoot!
~Update 2~
I made a new character, and with a few minor bumps along the way, I'll manage. I'd still like to clear out my Character list, so I'm wondering how to do that still!

Re: Shenanigans!
There is an NPC in the after life area, talk to it, one of the options is 'End my existence permanently'
This will add the PC to the deleting list.
(This does not happen straight away, the server looks for PCs to delete every 15 minutes or so).
If your PC is too low level to get into after life area on death (in which case simply respawn at the Chonda Port harbor), there is a carrot in the PC Tools Chest (one in DMFI Start and one in The Hall of Gods - accessed via the Tutorial area), picking that carrot up (out of the chest) will port you to the death area.
As for the rest, not sure, unless PC had same name as existing PC?
