Character Profiles and Epic stories on the Wiki

Feel free to add your char, using the template provided (Which you can add to!).

Thing like this are a good way to provide easily updated and navigated information on characters in the game, including IC info, such as how famous, infamous or generally well known a char is, the rumors around them and so on.

I've added Grace up as an example:

Add what you like about your character- but I would love it if the rumour sections could be built upon, as that's almost the IG lore on people. And on that note, if people want to add to the rumours about Grace, feel free to do so. If the rumors are too blunt, I may edit them, however, I fee that if you think that, then others probably will too- especially if your char is one to gossip.

I'll also be adding up some pages on 'Epic stories' and other events, that I would love if people could add to. Especially as there are so many epic stories that only the older players will know.

I feel that things like this make up the 'living history' of the server. The starting world must have changed since the beginning, when players unleashed mayhem upon the server, so having some of the more important events written down and available to new players will help.

It stops new players playing natives from not knowing who the really famous character in front of them is. Or some how not knowing that their home town was almost destroyed not so long ago, and so on.

Loved that idea, I'll add something about Drurazhor or even Jax later to that, as Jax has some reputation (I guess?).

Are there any suggestions for Epic Stories?

The Void perhaps.

I think the Lycan Treaty might not count as an Epic Story, but one important to Server events, so I might put it in as a Minor/Major Story.

There are stories I've heard about and seen hints of- the story that involved 500 souls from the city, some sort of lycan/vampire war going on between different pacts.

I might also make Character Plot stories, that might not be important to the overall server history, but important to certain characters (Like Vashan's demon events).

I'll put 'The Lycan Treaty' up, as I know that one well enough (Perhaps I'll make Grace collect information and make a history on Lycans in Arg-Reg (Like the purges, the treaty, roles in society (fetches, guardians, wildlings, monsters), So on), - If a DM would like to help me with this, that'd be awesome! )

Naturally, if we get a bard or a writer character who can write books and tell tales about these stories and make this information IC, that'd be great, but I think it's still important peopl OOCly can see what we've done and why things work as they do now.

Edit: Or should the Void be called the Shadow Saga, as 'The Void' is more a character than an event.

Well done. Actually the void and darkness are kind of the same. I will add a description though the void.darkness is Shars baby.

The treaty I can look over as Charai was part of the Druid circle.

I think the creation of Enflavious machine the knower could be included as it has been a minor character so to speak in many events.

We can make new pages for NPC characters, like The Void, The Darkness, Enflavious.

No problem- sorry if it's confusing.

The idea is, the template page is their as a source- so you can go to the template page, select all (In source mode for the best results- not visual. So if you see a little square saying 'Add photo' then you're in visual. You need to click the source tab in the top right hand corner). Then, make a new page (choose blank), name it after you char, go to source again, paste all, then go back to visual and edit away.

Also, you can add categories- 'Player Characters' so that it shows up in the list. And you can add 20+, 30+ or 40, depending on the char's current level, which isn't as important, but then puts them in a subcategory as well, so it's easier to navigate whose an 'unknown' low level char and who should be a legendary lvl 40 (as a rule of thumb- obviously not all chars will fit that, and you can state how well known you feel your char should be in your page. If people disagree with anything, they can comment in the talk section on the page.)

I won't make one for Tony, as I want him to be relatively unknown, but I won't stop one being made for him out of collected rumors... or maybe I will. Violently. I'd like it if we'd stay from my. . True nature.

Sorry for all the random edits- just trying to make things easier to navigate (Like changing the category '40' to 'Level 40').

Here's some quick tips for things:

Links:
To make links without having a url on your page, first go to 'Visual mode' (Where everything looks normal, and not like code). Type what text you want maybe like 'Tom's Journal', then highlight it. Clink on the link button, which is in the top left corner, next to the bold (B) and Italics (I) buttons. Now if it's an external link (not a wiki page), paste the url into the top box, and then tick the external link option, and done! If it's an internal wiki page, type the name of the page eg, 'Eastern Citadel'. If it's a section of a page, type "Page_Name#Section_Name", eg "Deities#Finshi". Sometimes the section names are a little odd, so what you can do, is open another tab, go to that page and click on the section name in the contents list, which will jump you down. Now, in your Url, it should have something like "Page_Name#Section_Name" at the end. Sometimes there's random numbers in this like "Dwarves#Shield_Dwarf_.28Mountain_Dwarf.29" because urls can't cope with certain characters like ' () and so on. Just copy and past that last section in, and click 'wiki page'.

Categories:
Categories are like folders. When you add a category to a page, what your doing is basically putting that page into a folder. You can add categories to categories, which makes the category you 'added' to a subcategory (a folder within a folder). If you want your page to show up in a list, like 'Epic Stories' or 'Player Characters' you need to add those names to the categories on your page. You can either do this while editting, or after you've published, by scrolling down to the bottom. Sometimes it'll suggest categories to you based on what you're typing, but not always, so you may need to remember what category you want. Some 'pages' are category pages, such as the 'Player Character' page (if you look under it's name at the top, it'll say 'category page'.

Sections:
I prefer adding sections in source mode, but here's how you do visual mode, and not have to use wiki code. Sections are things like 'General discription' on a character's page. You can have five levels of sections, but the fourth and fifth look very small, so that in contents they'll appear like this:
1. Big Title
1.1 Medium Title
1.1.1 Mini section
1.1.2 Other Mini section
1.2 Other Medium Title
1.2.1 other, other mini section.

If you want to do this in visual mode, and avoid having to try working with codes, (not that I'm a coder, wiki's simple), then type the title, then go to the text option at the top- it'll have things like 'normal text' 'Header 2, Header 3'. The larger the number, the smaller the text. If you do something like put a fifth after a third, then you'll get tiny text in , but the contents will still look like:
1. First header
2.Second Header
3. third header
4. fifth header
2. forth header.

So, try to go in order.

If I can ask the older players to collaborate and wrack their memories for older events not recorded in the forums, that'd be great!

Try remembering what events were important to the server or seemed note worthy and if possible:
The rough date- year, month, if it came before or after other events...
The players involved
The DM(s) in charge
A rough summary of the event.

So far the recommendations are:
The Sacrifice of the 500 souls.

But I hear about events involving Lycan wars, Vampires- The destruction of the mercenary guild...

Eeeeeh. I was there...ish during the destruction of the Merc guild, but I don't actually know what happened ^^

Lycan wars? I was there near the end of it. Lycan hunters were running rampant hunting and quelling the were-creatures, kinda up to the point where Tony 'died' and it all sort of stopped.

And the Dark Lord...? Huh. Think I encountered him somewhere deep deeeeeeeep underground, just an NPC though. If the 'Dread disease' was a zombifying one, I may have seen the edge of some of that event.

Not really enough to work with to write up a wiki page on though.

Hm, well Tony 'died' around October 2010, right?

So that's 1270 days, from the middle of Oct (Oct, 15, 2010), an in game year is 45, and the current IG year is 503. 503-(1270/45)= Late 474, or very early 475, roughly.

So, we now have a rough date for Tony's 'death' (The guy's been gone nearly 30 years!) And a rough date for the end of the lycan wars. The end of the lycan wars was then around the time of the Dark Lord event coming to a head (475).

I guess I need to go all mindflayer on Ragdoll, harvest his secrets.

Valerion, if you'd like to make a page on your annexation of Vestalla, go ahead. Not sure how you want to label it, as it seems close to a 'Character Plot', but also would hypothetically have enough effect on Argentum-Regio politics and history to count as 'Major'.


Also, going to give a big shout out to Animayhem, whose been amazing with helping out with the Wiki, adding images, pages and helping keep the wiki tidy!  

I'm not sure how much data was lost from the old server. Also, the time periods of 400-440 and any early events RL are a bit iffy.

The board in the OOC start area near haggis suggests that the first beta testers would have been set in the 400-440 period, regardless of actual date and time. They were the 'prehistory/precalender/pre-working date system' people, as the world was apparently geared to start in 440+.

Going from the earliest date on this forum, the corrosponding IG year would be 458. So, it could be possible that my method of calculating dates (number of days between RL dates / 45, subtracted from the current IG year) would not take into account these 'alpha' events. But unless someone clarifies that, I can really take it into consideration.

Meaning we only have possible records of events between the IG years 458 (Oct, 2008) to 503 (Apr, 2014).

So we only have about 50 IG years of 'PC history' to go with. 6 years RL.

Currently we have no events going beyond the 470's.

Friends,
After you do the math you may find there are 'holes'. This in in part due to early restarts NOT being time persistent (temporal persistence was something we did early-on but for perhaps the first year it was not essential to our testing at that stage as none of our databases were yet developed let alone engaged at that time). More, at a later time when the databases and persistence WAS engaged there was a DM who (against all posted instruction) changed time in-game which put a kerflaffle on the whole project for the better part of six months while Eriniel sorted out the broken parts caused by the DM err.

You may need to adjust your dates of events based on more than simple math (though the math as you have shown can help you to some degree, it will not be wholly accurate - so best to build your time-line only loosely based on math and try to deduce by other clues too which events occurred in which sequence if there are any discrepancies apparent.

KUDOS to you all, and good luck to you all - sorting this out may be a bit awkward but the effort is well spent I think.

If in need of in-game explanation for any temporal strangeness, remember, Wild Magic impacts pretty much everything else, it may well impact time and even other things unseen.

We did loose a significant amount of adventure and server lore when the old forum went dark. I've had a request to restore the old forum in for a LONG LONG time but had no response.

could easily use animayhem's dark cloud story for some lore reference to the void. probably one of the more indepth accounts of that event.

ill try and browse the IC post section as well. can get some good facts from that as well. could find other bnames that would be sub-important to the lore as well

Or we could create some sort of excuse for temporal wrinkles (Thanks a combination of several things, like wild magic) which have caused events to both overlap, and not at the same time! Make it real confusing to anyone who tries to even comprehend how and why it happened to the point of where they'll simply nod cluelessly and carry on. *Puts his hands in his pockets with a smug grin*

Think of it like when you drop a pebble in a puddle, but the ripples have a much higher frequency, to the point of which one ripple nearly touches the other, hence being in two time-frames at once... nearly... but my ideas can get a bit crazy, so I imagine ODA would prefer something a bit more realistic >.>

Reason for my idea was because of what you (ODA) said ages back about Lord Hashard Brown (Some of you may not know him), something about having different variations of himself due to some sort of... Thing... I can't remember it very well... >.>
