Animal kill count
To get Nature spells I'm pretty sure you need to go speak to the old druid in the wilds south of esrogoth. Problem is, this druid will not talk to you, and will instead attack you, if you've killed any animals. Considering the path you need to go to find them is littered with wild animals who are hostile to you (badgers, wolves, big cats, vipers), some of which can be killed in one or two hits before you can call you character off, this makes it near impossible to get nature spells without the use of a gatholm early on in character development (The more you adventure, the more chance of a random animal will die by your hands).
Could there be a way to reduce this count, of make it so the old druid doesn't hate you for it? I understand nature gods punishing followers for such transactions, or druids seriously disapproving, but it's too difficult to get nature spells. Rangers will kill animals for sustenance or in defense.
It's very frustrating leveling a character up and trying to get to the old druid and being attacked by a badger who your char kills in one hit, because it's a badger.

I sympathize. Maybe a slight modification in the druid script itself. Charia early on was fighting trolls and happened to be in wooded area. She threw a fire bomb which destroyed the troll but also a tree which did a major shift in her alignment. If a tree needs to be cut you have to use an proper axe. Eri either adjusted Charia or Rhenallathan so that if something like that happened again, alignment woul not be hit.
Have you the ability to be invisible? That way go through the woods invisibly and do not engage.

Re: Animal kill count
Erin and I are just now trying to chase down an issue in the module that I've been unable to address the last couple months for time constraints. Once we have this critical issue in hand the plan is to get caught up on adding erfs from our GUEST BUILDERS (thank you all).
Once these things are done - I'm thinking that it would be good to allow a druid PC to atone in some fashion. Perhaps they can cancel out HD of animal kills with HD of aberration kills or similar deeds? FEEDBACK HERE WILL HELP US PLAN THE WAY IT ALL WORKS SO GET YOUR 2 CENTS IN.
Be well. Game on.

Re: Animal kill count
Aberrations are despised by many druids as 'unnatural', usually because creatures classified as aberrations either originate from another plane, or have been altered by forces from another plane, or have been made unnaturally, such as through magic and curses.
For example, aboleths and ithilids either came from or were influenced by the 'Far realm', another plane. It's not so much that druids dislike things from other realms- high level druids understand that the balance goes beyond this plane, and a balance between all the planes is needed. And it's also not that they neccesarily hate beings from other planes getting involved with the material plane- although they usually feel that such beings should stick to their own realms, they can tolerate their presence, providing they don't become an invasive species or interfere with nature and the balance of the material realm. Fey, are from a pararell plane- but druids often form alliances with fey, because their plane is similar enough to the material plane, and fey often help protect nature. The Far realm, however, is a corrupting realm- that twists things and warps them, breaking all the laws and rules of nature and ignoring the balance.
Magically created aberrations, like driders (who were drow magically merged with spiders), are pitied and create feelings of disgust in most druids, because they should never have been. Druid's typically are wary of arcane magic, or divine magic that comes from 'pesky spirits' like deities that don't reverre nature. (Druids in arg-reg see deities as very powerful spirits- ones that were either born of nature, became domesticated, or born from strange, unnatural forces- druids certainly wouldn't like Lolth, being a foriegn spirit, dislike the Infernal master for encouraging destructive behaviour, and domestic gods like Eavee for enabling the poorly looked upon city life).
Undead would also be another type that could 'atone' animal kills.

Yeah animal kill counter defiantly needs tweaking, along with the ability to reset it without DM help...
