Friends,
We all have something we like about the server that helps make our server stand-out from others.

For me it is THE SCOPE OF THIS MONSTER. Now this is sorta nerdy - you see, I recently found a post that made me smile.

ArgentumRegio has more custom scripting than us? Wow. We have 165k lines of code in our script repository and have to manage everything out of band of the toolset because it can't cope.

I'll have to take a look at them Smile

Here a fellow builder is admitting his module won't build in the nwn toolset, mis-associating this with the 165k lines of code that Arelith used (at the time of the writing).

It is not about size, although our module is known to be 1337+ Areas, less well known is it that we have nearly 4300 scripts that comprise about 345k lines (some code some comments it is too much hassle to sort that out atm). It is more about what the lines actually do. What features do they deliver to the PLAYER? How efficient the scripts are and how well integrated to other scripts they are. AND IT ALL BUILDS JUST FINE IN THE NWN TOOLSET. Really, only takes a few minutes (10 or less on a not great computer) to do a full build of scripts and palette.

The SCOPE of this monster - in this case, in this case, considering the whole of the module, the scripts, the areas, the features, THAT defines scope for me. And being ALL THAT, it runs lag free, generally goes not crash, does a toolset 'build' operation with no issues.

We owe it all to how lean and clean this module is, from both a build and a code standpoint; it just runs well, this is to plan and a testimony to the quality skills applied here. *cues applause for Eriniel - and joins in same*

cheers

OK your turn. What feature do YOU like about the Argentum Regio server?

I would say aside from the custom scripts the lack of lag out. Smile

The ability to actually swim, climb and jump. Other places they have the jump here or the swim through triggers but you do not actually swim.

The Aurora toolset was way ahead of its time.

Not just here but if one even takes a look at other worlds just to admire the creators who enabled worlds to be individuals.

I agree with mayhem.

The biggest perk of every nwn server is the fact that it is end user run and is not corporate affiliated in any way. Its the players that give life to any game and the fact that we are the ones who actually have control of NWN in its totality i feel is one of the reasons that the game lives on even despite large corporations trying to crush it. NWN behaves like the internet itself, you cant destroy it as long as you have one person willing to run a hub.

I do really like this server.

From it's easy, adaptable roleplay, it's open friendliness, the tantalizing hidden secrets that feel well earned upon discovery, and as we can all agree: the impressiveness of it's scripting. It's why I've played on this server for years, and it's why I donate to keep it going. But mostly, I love this server for it's potential.

That's what hooked me.

When I first played on this server back in 2010/2011, me and my friend explored a bit and marveled at the scripting. We'd recently come from a dead server, and were hoping for a new server, that didn't already have huge cliques of people built up that we had to dig our way into. Sure, Dohral was still a little rough- leveling was hard, transitions were broken, the world looked pretty empty. But the scripting? That was promising. Given a little love, this server could go far.

Now, I then disappeared to Japan, and my friend moved to Australia (and for one reason or another, cut contact with me). After coming back, late into my first year of university, I got a craving for NwN again. So I popped on, had a look around. Spotted Arg-reg and noticed it had a few players on it- and so I returned.

And here I still am. But while the server has improved vastly to what is was in 2011, I still feel that it needs a little more love. And I don't mean players. Players are good, but we don't need players to get better. We need to be better to get players.

That dead server I came from? It had no scripting. None. It was simply a beautiful world, with excellent DMs, great lore and world building. There was a story to that world. And me and about 7 other players adored that world- we were absorbed in the story that was unfurling- the politics, the lore, religion, drama. Alas, we were all poor students, and a server is costly to host. We knew we weren't go to be big, not with out a good scripter to help the magic happen. That's probably why me and my friend were so hopeful about this server- because it has some of the best damn scripting we've ever seen.  But, the old server knew it couldn't keep going, so we shook hands and parted ways. After Japan and gamespy dead, I lost track of them.

But I do miss those qualities that world had. Area's designed to inspire awe and feed the imagination. A world that was alive and living around you- where DM's could keep track of which NPC's lived where, what their personalities were like, what there relationship with players were- a world that remembered you. Where making friends with one person would make you an enemy of someone else. Where your choices and impact on the world had meaning. A world where the lore was rich and deep and accessible- you could loose yourself in the libraries, reading up old tomes, uncovering knowledge that would help you realise secrets.

Argentum Regio still has the best scripts I've ever seen. And it has vast areas to explore. It's DMs, although currently sparse, are great.

But we're not the best server. We still have a lot to do. It's not just about telling players about the server. It's about giving them a reason to stay. And scripting and size alone can't do that.

I have to say i agree with Elgate on some of the above mentioned. Sometimes the server can feel empty and hollow and you can walk around for a good few hours before bumping into someone. HOWEVER that being said this server has some of the best DM staff i have come across (and im not including myself in that list lol) And thats what counters my above comment. Personally i think its to do with the NES Spawn system im not a massive fan but thats another subject Razz

The best feature of this server is hands down the Lore. The amount of time and effort that oda and others have put into the Lore, The background, The maps, The very fact that every area smoothly transitions. Think about it, How many servers have you played on where you can actually have an impact and a large scale effect on the land itself. The history is rich and so in depth there's an entire Document with 3+ hours of reading to do. Now yes while all this information isn't available to every player in a handy PDF. IT IS AVAILABLE TO YOU IN GAME! You just have to go out there and search for it. The fact that there are street names, Different areas of the city named seperately, And after actual NPC's that once were founding the very streets your characters walk on! That street you just walked down, You think the name for it came out of a hat? Wrong. It was thought out and carefully planned. Thats what i love about this place. Sure there's room for improvement but what we have right now is by far the most rich and in depth experience you will encounter on any server and i dont doubt it!!!!!!!!!

I too have mentioned more detail mapping of interiors and such and have made some.  I plan to continue my work once I get my new computer set up and Oda and Eri get the builder mod finished.

It is easy to cut and past interiors into different buildings.

Quicker access to lore without having to check the forums or do a search skill check to find it.

Maybe on city with a main library by which you can find out information.

As mentioned the ability to do almost anything you can do in life is nice.

This. I am willing to help realize this. I have played on a place similar.

The people here have been very helpful.
