(( OOC note: I thought it might be interesting to hold a journal on the forum of my character to flesh out his personality and give insight in to some of his IC actions and why he does them, if it ever seems cryptic. I feel it will also enhance the roleplay. I'll explain his basic background in the first entry, it'll go by real life days instead of game days, easier for me to measure. That's all, hope it's good reading! ))

Day 1 - The First Lesson

I've finally found time to write about today, my first day within... blast, my first day in and the name of this land already escapes me. I've never been good with directions or remembering places... hmph... I'd best start from the beginning.

I am Soociki, a Monk by trade, though a fisherman by previous lifestyle. I keep this journal in the case where I may perish and this may come of use to someone, or to be returned to my now distant family in Faerun. I had... erm... 'boarded' a ship out of Faerun to take my escape of a fisherman lifestyle, in which I cannot imagine they were happy about, but I have my doubts that they hold anger in their hearts. I'll get back to the 'boarding' bit later, but I should write about how one becomes a Monk when they were a fisherman. Truth be told, I'm not a very experienced Monk. For a long time in my youth, I have been complimented upon for my wise insight in to many events, and I seek the truths of myself, and the world around me. I'm not a genius, nor a lumbering ox, but I've proven many times to be wise beyond my years when the situation demands it. Well... that would be the case, if not for my foolhardy, headstrong nature... I'll get to that in a moment. I had been making non-permitted 'visits' to the monastery a couple of miles from where we had fished, when my folks were not within eyesight. I've seen what they do, how they meditate, a few of their basic striking techniques, and I have mimicked these techniques in silence. Though I have tried to stay hidden while doing so, I have a feeling that they have always known of my presence. Perhaps they felt bad for me and permitted me to stay in silence, or perhaps they felt that I'd have been too stubborn to leave even if they had chased me out multiple times. I have learned very little from simply mimicking them, but attempting to live this Monk lifestyle seems to be giving me a new insight to how they live, the meaning of what they do. I sought to learn more of it, and knew that as long as I remained in Faerun with my family, that prospect was unlikely to happen... which brings me back to that 'boarding' bit I mentioned earlier.

Though they surely couldn't force me to be a fisherman forever, my father was better at catching more than just fish. I knew he wouldn't allow me to escape unless I had moved far, far out of his reach... and I think he's more than just a fisherman, however he has never indulged that curiosity of mine. I decided I had to leave Faerun entirely to escape him and the other family members, and that's where the ship came in to the plan. Well... I say 'plan' but I never really made one; I had no money in which to pay for boarding, and I fear the captain would have known me or my family, making the aftermath even worse should he have told my father. The only way I managed to get aboard was when a dog, looked like a Terrier breed, breezed past the captain's legs, scampering on the boarding plank and dropped down the ladder to the lower decks. Next thing you know, all hell's breaking loose on the ship trying to catch that dog, they all scramble down below decks shouting expletives and curses, yelling at the dog as it barked and scrambled away even lower. Looking back on it now, I shouldn't have done what I did right after... it was the second most foolhardy thing I've ever done so far, except what happened... well, I'll discuss that later. I wasted no time in darting aboard the ship, with any nearby port man who was not with the crew witnessing me basically stow away on to the ship. That's not even the foolhardy part of it; I cut the mooring ropes in a hurry with one of the rapiers laying in a stock barrel on top deck so the ports man wouldn't be able to tell the crew after they came back up. Next thing you know, it isn't just the crew on the low decks yelling and scrambling with that dog, those in charge of the port are yelling and trying to re-fasten the ropes, but too little, too late. I could feel my heart starting to race, realizing the brashness of this action, but having no time to think, as I quickly go down the ladder, and hide in one of the crates before the crew rushes up. Evidently, this crew was bad at catching things, as I peeked through the crate and saw them coming back up, no dog in hand. If that's what I have to hide from, I knew this would be a breeze; We were already sailed out far enough to the point where nobody back on the port could have shouted loud enough to anyone on top deck about my uninvited presence. Unfortunately, the foolhardiness of my decision just kept getting worse, as now I had no idea where we were setting off to, as I never asked or had the chance to before it all happened. Little did I know at that time, just what I had gotten myself in to...

(( OOC note: Thank you for your patience! I had issues with the next entry not posting, and thanks to Absol 13 giving me a hand, I was able to find out the issue! Without further ado, the second entry... and there's definitely more to come! ))

(( It seems a new page has appeared, seeming to continue the last one. ))

Nnnghhh... what a fight! Ahh, well, I am ahead of myself. I should keep with the past day, and I'll tell you why my whole body feels like I got a half-orc piledriver later. I'll give you a hint... don't go fighting shadows with your bare fists!

Where was I? Oh right, I had gotten myself in to a lot of trouble. Remember when I cut those mooring ropes? Well, as I found out from overheard conversation, they were avoiding setting out because they heard of a huge storm wreaking havoc in the ocean crossing... and my actions just ensured we were heading in to the eye of the storm. I can't remember how many times I hit myself in the face at that realization, I only remember waking up after that, right in the middle of that vicious storm. I stumbled out of the crates quickly, in to the open. I briefly looked around before the hull of the boat took bilge, sending me flat on my face. I was soaked all over with freezing cold sea water, as I shivered, feeling it take the body heat out of me quickly. I had no choice but to throw the garments away and take some from a crate, lest I risk hypothermia in the very near future. I garbed up quickly, and got to a higher deck, just below the top deck... forgive me if my telling is not accurate, my memory is hazy of that moment. I believe that was when I had met that same dog, the Terrier... I was quite lost, and he helped me get on the right track. I conversed with a man near the ladder, trying to get answers, hoping he didn't realize I was a stowaway, and likely before he could break the question about that, the dog headed to the top deck! I'm not sure what came over me, but I quickly followed him, not wanting him to get washed off the boat, or worse.

Nine hells, had I wished I didn't go up there! What I came to witness, not even a lich from the dime novels I've read could create a storm this nasty. I have no proof or versing in the arcane to even insist that it could be arcane of any nature, but seeing something this nasty is enough to convince any lesser man of sorcery. I weaved and stumbled upon the deck, letting a stream of vomit leave my esophagus, before managing to get to the captain. Oh, he was a mite furious with me being above deck, probably less that I was on deck to begin with and more that I don't think he recognized me as a legitimate passenger. Had it not been for the storm tearing his ship asunder, he probably would have thrown me overboard right there... he waved me off to head below deck, not wanting to deal with me, clearly having far more important things to take care of. Frankly, I have to agree, I didn't want anything to do with what's out there! A bolt of lightning had just hit a part of the ship just a LITTLE too close to me, and I wasn't going to become monk suey. I made a run for the lower deck, but in my foolhardy dash I had forgotten the major water that had taken the ship, slipping on the water, and going hard, head first in to... I swear to sanctuary I'm not making this up... my own vomit. Whether it was the blunt force trauma or the disgust of decorating my charms with my up-spew that brought me out of senses, I cannot say. All I can say, is that I woke up when we were now moored in this city, in which I would now recall the name if not for the fact that I had forgotten it again due to the even more recent blunt force trauma I've had the current day of writing this. Don't worry, you'll love what happened the next day, when it's time to tell that story... for now...

One of the sailors briefed me pretty quickly, with nearly no information. Looking back on it, I can hardly blame him, why would he inform a stowaway of anything? Likely the way they saw it is, I was probably the one who cut the mooring ropes, and I am no longer their problem. I'm lucky enough they didn't gut me in my unwilling slumber and throw me to the storm... they probably didn't want to go anywhere near my expelled lunch. Well, the mention of vomit aside, the dog from earlier was in sight once more, and we ended up becoming short traveling companions for the time being. Within the port of town, we found a girl who was willing to bring me to the training grounds of the city, dare I say, the Noob U as it is poorly named. Or at least, I think that's where she took me... my memory of this event has become poor, so many sights I had to take in, so many things going through my mind. Without even knowing it, in the middle of town, we got attacked. Our foes seemed to be two ghostly apparitions, of what they were called I do not know. All I could do was back off and let her handle them. Many events happened that I can't recall in a specific order... I don't know if that's because my rib's poking my liver right now, or if I just couldn't take all the sights in at that time that I'm writing about. At some point, I picked up on some basics, and... my memory goes hazy, and I think I've got internal bleeding. Needless to say, those were the important events of that time, and the next day was far more interesting... which I'll write about after the priest finishes prying the arrow out of my

(( The rest of the page seems to have a long, quick drag down, almost tearing through the page, the ink bleaching multiple empty pages underneath from the drag. It would seem likely that he suffered something very painful suddenly, perhaps relating to his medical treatment. Though it doesn't look good, it's likely he'll be up and writing again shortly. OOC note: Feel free to comment with suggestions, or even if you like the writing. Some of these events happened quite suddenly and RL I might not always recall the proper details, but I think that's quite realistic to begin with... everyone has a different side of the story. I'm always open to suggestions, and hope you're liking the reading! Just wanted to drop that in here, will be keeping OOC pretty minimal. ))
